H.E Catherine Muigai Mwangi visited Galway from 4th to 6th March 2010 to promote Kenya. She was accompanied by Kasiva Mbithi, a political officer at the Embassy.   In her tour she paid a courtesy call to Mayor Declan McDonnell of Galway and briefed on the situation in Kenya highlighting that there were major infrastructure and construction projects available that foreign investors could participate in.

The Ambassador also visited Galway Chambers of Commerce and held detailed discussions on the opportunities available in Kenya for Irish investors with the President and CEO, Mr. Paul Shelly and Mr. Coyle, respectively. The Ambassador explained to the officials, Kenya’s enormous tourism, trade and investment opportunities.

The Chamber officials agreed to support a forum to be organised by the Embassy to show case Kenya opportunities in trade and investment for the larger Galway business community. The officials also extended their invitation to the Kenyan 2012 Summer Olympics team to reside and train in Galway in preparation for the games to be held in London.

Her next visit was to the National University of Ireland, Galway to deliver a speech and seek collaborative relations between Kenyan universities and NUI. Her speech "Does the Bill of Rights in the Draft Kenyan Constitution Reflect both African and International Best Practice?” was delivered to students of the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway who thereafter engaged her in a very interactive session.

Later the Ambassador called on Professor Chris Curtin, vice President for Innovation and Performance, who was joined by other faculty to discuss possible collaborations. She briefed the meeting on the Kenyan education system and informed of opportunities in partnering and exchanging of skills that could exist between the education institutions, particularly in the field of Engineering. After deliberations, the meeting agreed to explore research opportunities between Universities in Kenya and Ireland.

The Ambassador also met with business people who already have business projects in Kenya and was satisfied at the growing interest in Kenya as a trade and investment destination.

Finally the Ambassador hosted Kenyan representatives and affirmed to them the Embassy’s commitment to improving services to the Diaspora.
